Discover and Develop Your Gifting

Soma Team is the capstone experience of the Leadership Development program and is designed for students who have successfully completed Nehemiah and Timothy Team. Soma, the Greek word for body, reflects the central focus of this stage: learning what it means to actively participate in the Body of Christ.

Scripture teaches that God gives each believer gifts according to His grace (Romans 12). Throughout Soma, campers spend intentional time with peers and leaders discovering how God has uniquely gifted them, developing those gifts in community, and using them to serve others. Each camper serves alongside New Life Ranch staff in a role designed to provide meaningful responsibility, practical ministry experience, and opportunities for continued growth.

Throughout the experience, Soma campers study God’s Word, develop leadership skills, invest in discipleship relationships, and learn to take greater ownership of their faith. As the culmination of Leadership Development, Soma challenges students to move beyond simply learning about leadership and into actively leading and participating in the work of the Body of Christ.

To apply for Soma Team, campers must have successfully completed Timothy Team. Campers apply for their desired three-week session and will be interviewed before being assigned to one of New Life Ranch’s two sites. If a session reaches capacity, applicants will be placed on a waitlist and notified immediately, with the option to register for another available session.

Soma Applications are due Dec 31st.

Week 1

Discovery & Development

In the opening chapters of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is found walking alongside the sea of Galilee. He runs into Andrew and Simon fishing: a very ordinary moment and simple task for them. Jesus’ calls to them and invites them to become fishers of men. An everyday life task, with heavenly implication.  Week 1 of Soma is meant to reflect this kind of discipleship and training, modeling how Jesus walked with his disciples.

The focus in week 1 is on Discovery & Development, where campers are assigned and trained in a role at camp, based on giftings and areas of need within camp.

Week 2-3

Participation and Celebration

Our goal is to walk with our campers to discover how Jesus has invited them to participate in the kingdom like Andrew and Simon. Your camper will spend time discovering more of their giftings and develop those with their leaders and learn to leverage them for the kingdom throughout week 2-3 for their experience.

The focus in weeks 2-3 is on Experiential Learning, where campers are serving in roles, attending leadership labs, and studying the Bible together.
