Trail Run FAQ 🏃

How long is a Fun Run, 5K, 10K, & 20K?
+
  • 1 Mile Fun Run = 1 Mile (obviously)
  • 5 kilometers = 3.1 miles
  • 10 kilometers = 6.2 miles
  • 20 kilometers = 12.4 miles

Note that for trail races, due to an inability to lengthen and shorten trails, races can sometimes be a little bit more or (once in a rare while) a little bit less than the advertised distance. We work hard at hitting the minimum distance stated.

Is Flint & Steel only for serious athletes?
+

No. Flint & Steel welcomes competitive racers, weekend warriors, families, and first-timers. Choose the distance or team option that fits you best, or join the retreat and simply enjoy theweekend.

I am a very slow runner/rider. Am I going to be out of place?
+

You won’t be out of place at all. These races are planned for participants of all abilities — including walkers/hikers and casual mountain bikers.

Do I have to sign up for the retreat to race?
+

No. You can register just for a run or ride. The retreat is an optional add-on that includes lodging, meals, and access to weekend activities. Also, you don't have to participate in either race in order to come for the retreat!

Can I come just to watch?
+

Yes! Spectators are welcome. Saturday lunch and Sunday grab-and-go lunch are open to spectators along with racers, volunteers, and retreat guests.

Can I register on the day of the race?
+

Yes! Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to your race start time to allow for parking and registration.

Will there be food available?
+

Yes, there will be breakfast and lunch available for runners and riders.

How early should I arrive?
+

It is strongly recommended that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your race start time to allow for parking and packet pickup. If you are registering the morning of the race, arrive 45 minutes before your start time.

Will there be age group awards?
+

Yes, we will have age groups results posted and will award age group 1st Place certificates. If you are not at the podium during awards, we will mail your certificate.

When/where do I pick up my bib/race packet?
+

Packet pickup will be at New Life Ranch 9:00am – 7:00pm on Friday, December 6th, and starting at 7:00am on race days. Gates will not open until 7:30am.

Can my dog run with me during the race?
+

No. You will not be permitted onto the grounds with a dog or other pet.

Will the race be cancelled if it rains?
+

No. The race will be held, rain or shine. Courses may be modified to account for weather conditions.

Do you issue refunds?
+

No. The purpose of this run is to help raise funds for the New Life Ranch scholarship fund. Each year, over $700,000 is given away as camper scholarships and this race will help with that effort. Thank you for your help getting kids to camp!
