STAFF POSITIONS

We determine the area you will work in based on your gifts, strengths and interests. As Christian leaders, we are called to be servants, therefore you may be asked to help in a wide range of areas throughout the summer. Your willingness to joyfully serve wherever needed will be expected. We are also a physically active camp so it is important that you be prepared for the physical strains that accompany working at a summer camp. Age wise, staff staying in cabins with campers must have completed at least one year of college or the NLR Leadership Development Program.

You will spend your day with campers laughing, singing, sharing the word, and having fun with them as they learn about Jesus. You’ll also teach an activity class, Word times, keep up with 12 campers, and get to know each one of them on a personal level, ultimately to share Jesus Christ with them.

Each week we develop a first class video that our campers can show their family and friends. This job requires creativity, some experience, and a desire to make it a ministry. You are in charge of capturing, editing, and producing content that best demonstrates a week of camp. Equipment is provided.

Lifeguard/Counselor serve in a dual role. Approximately 4 weeks will be spent in counselor role, the other 4 in a lifeguard role. Lifeguards aim to keep our campers safe in all swimming areas. An up-to-date certification in lifeguarding is required.

The KL position is definitely one of service. Not only do you help prepare and serve food, you are also in charge of the summer staff and volunteers that rotate each week into the kitchen. This is not only a position to serve food, but an opportunity to change lives through service.

The worship leader position is for someone who is gifted in leading young people to the throne of God through music. This includes leading age appropriate worship for both Juniors (3rd– 6th graders), Seniors (7th –12th grade), and Leadership Development Campers (10th-12th grade), as well as leading our famous Flock Fiesta for Day Camp and Morning Camp Party for Summer Camp.

The position of Facilities Leader is there to keep our grounds and facilities up and running for campers to use and enjoy. Your work would include but not be limited to lawn care, minor maintenance and construction, etc. This job requires some experience and a willingness to work hard.

WRANGLER

Wranglers work specifically with our horsemanship program. You must have knowledge of riding, tack, and routine care of horses. You would be required to teach up to 3 classes a day (from beginner to advanced riders), care for horses (grooming, feeding, etc.), and lead trail rides in the afternoon.

Nehemiah leaders facilitate 2 weeks of learning experiences for Leadership Development participants going into their sophomore year of high school. These experiences include serving around camp and the surrounding communities, studying the book of Nehemiah, and engaging in group team building.

The role of a Timothy leader is to equip Leadership Development participants going into their junior year of high school with practical leadership skills over a period of 3 weeks. This includes a week-long backpack trip, a week of training and discipleship, and a week of running Day Camp.

The Trip Leader facilitates a week long wilderness experience including 3 nights at a base camp and 3 nights along the Buffalo River. Trip leaders train students in navigation, backpacking, fire building and Leave No Trace principles, and are responsible for the safety of campers during this trip.

The Lead Ropes Tech reports to the Challenge Course Manager and serves the ropes needs of Summer Camp, Day camp, and Leadership development on Patmos Island. This means leading a team of ropes techs in the management of ropes classes for Summer Camp and Day Camp, and facilitating team building experiences for Leadership Development.

The Graphic Designer reports to the Communications Coordinator and serves alongside the Media Team. The Graphic Designer will work with videographers to create brand-consistent graphics for videos, the worship team for chapel graphics, and the Summer Activity Leaders for various graphic needs throughout the summer.

Staff Training

May 22-June 2

Staff Training takes place two weeks before the start of summer camp. These weeks are a great time of getting to know the rest of the staff, learning about the various aspects of serving on summer staff, and getting camp ready for thousands of kids to arrive!


Summer Camp Dates


Summer Staff are hired for the duration of the summer. Each summer staff will receive 1 week off during the summer, which will be assigned by their supervisor.

Here is what a typical day at camp looks like. Summer staff gets two hours off each day as assigned by the Summer Activity Leaders (except Friday), as well as 24 hours off from Saturday 11am-Sunday 11am.
