Outdoor Education Guide To
It is our goal that once you get to New Life you can sit back and we will take care of everything else. Here is a list of things to take care in order to ensure that everything is ready to go before you get here:
Reserve a date- Contact sam@newliferanch.com and let us know when you want to come and how many students you will bring. We offer a wide variety of options for length of stay, anywhere from 1 day/1 meal to 1 week/15 meals.
Set your curriculum- Take a look at the Learning Labs and decide what sort of things you would like to do with your students during your stay and NLR.
Recruit parents or other teachers- We ask for 1 adult for every 10 students in the cabin.
Reservation
Guest groups are responsible for paying for the minimum reservation number and for guests that exceed the reservation number. Groups have until 90 days before the event to make changes in the reservation number and length of the event.
If the final number of people attending an event is below the contracted minimum reservation number, your group will be charged for those who attended and 80% for those who didn’t, up to the reservation number.
NLR needs your group’s final numbers one week before your event. If you later discover that the number of participants is going to exceed the number you reported, please call NLR to see if space and food are available for extra guests.
Deposit
To reserve requested dates, NLR requires a deposit of $10.00 per guest reservation ($10 x Minimum Reservation Number = Deposit). Reservations are not confirmed until the deposit and contract have been received.
You have two options when paying your final bill:
- Pay the total amount, less the deposit.
- Roll over the deposit to book an event and reserve space on NLR’s calendar for the following year.
Cancellation
If cancellation occurs at any time, your deposit will be forfeited. If the cancellation occurs within the 90 days of the scheduled event, NLR requires payment of 50% of the minimum reservation number. In cases of severe or unsafe weather please contact New Life Ranch to discuss options of postponing or rescheduling your event. If a cancellation has to be made due to weather, deposits will be refunded or credited towards a future event.
Students will be engaged in outside activity all day, so bring appropriate clothing.
- Clothes for outdoor activity.
- We will walk on rocky trails, so wear good sturdy shoes.
- Rain gear if the forcast is rainy
- Creek shoes or sandals for wading if doing a water lab (flip-flops won't work here, shoes need to stay on your feet!)
- Water bottle for hikes
- Bedding for twin and double mattresses or a sleeping bag
- Towels and toiletries
- Flashlight
- Pen, notebook, Bible
- Sun screen and insect repellent
- Cash for canteen (the canteen is our store where snacks, sodas, and apparel can be purchased)
Optional items:
- Binoculars
- Camera/Camcorder
- Fishing pole and tackle
- Water nets or other tools useful during creation labs
All camp programs include activities that have some risk, but we plan our program to be as safe as possible. Here are some of our safety and emergency policies for your stay:
- Groups are responsible for providing at least one counselor for every ten kids in a cabin.
- We answer incoming phone calls and check messages 24 hours a day during your camp sessions. Intercom telephones are in every building; we'll get messages to you.
- Group leaders or parents are responsible for administering first aid and making medical decisions regarding themselves and their students. In and emergency, physicians and a hospital are 15 minutes away in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
