Leadership Development
The New Life Ranch Leadership Development Ministry seeks to challenge the lives of campers with new experiences designed to transform them into leaders for Jesus Christ. Through deliberate activities and purposeful jobs, campers will be molded into a team focused on the intention of growing in their potential to mature, serve, and lead. This is done through specific programs broken into three levels:
The "Nehi" team has a focus of servanthood. Through vital behind-the-scenes work they learn to give of themselves & become servants just as Christ modeled for us through His life. This "camp within a camp" utilizes work projects, Bible memorization, an in-depth Bible study of Nehemiah, development of a personal quiet time, NLR's Challenge Course, and an overnight caving trip to develop servant leaders. While the Nehi team will have the opportunity to work, play, and learn servant leadership, they will not have the added responsibilities of caring for campers.
The Nehemiah program is for students going into the 10th grade, but is not limited to this age group. Register (pdf)
LIT’s begin the transition from camper to counselor. They are able to catch a glimpse of what it takes to be a counselor through helping with camp activities, playing games as a counselors, and “adopting” a cabin. In addition, LIT’s are exposed to the roles of a counselor, study Jesus as the prime example of leadership, continue in Bible memorization, learn how to share their testimonies, learn about a leader role in the cabin and in life, & experience challenging group activities which include a two-night backpacking trip.
Successful completion of the Nehemiah program is required for entry into the LIT program. Register (pdf)
Counselor-In-Training: The CIT program seeks to complete the transition from camper to counselor. While a CIT does not bear the full weight of the responsibility of a counselor, the CIT is fully involved in the cabin and acts like the co-pilot for the lead counselor. Responsibilities include cabin group leadership, counseling opportunities, and developmentally appropriate spiritual leadership. This level provides an opportunity for the camper to exercise leadership and implement the skills learned in Level 1 and 2. CITs continue to develope through engaging in Bible memorization, training in Bible study methods, evangelism training, relational ministry training, and counselor training. The CIT program lasts four weeks.
CIT requirements include: Completion of the Nehi and LIT programs, an interview with the Summer Camp Coordinator, a training session on June 1st - 3rd, 2007 (you must be able to attend this session) and after acceptance, a valid certification in adult CPR by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
Wrangler-In-Training: The WIT program is concurrent with the CIT program. While WIT’s do not bear the full weight of responsibility of a wrangler, they are fully involved in activities surrounding the barn. Responsibilities include teaching during activity class time, trail rides, general care of the horses, and help around the barn. Those desiring to be in this program should be at least a NLR Horseman rank III or equivalent horsemanship skills must be demonstrated. WIT’s continue to develope through engaging in Bible memorization, training in Bible study methods, evangelism training, relational ministry training, and counselor training as well. The WIT program lasts four weeks.

Our LEAD program is targeted at college graduates, and is an opportunity for them to spend an extended time growing and serving at NLR. LEAD is not a continuation of our NeHi program, so participation as a NeHi, LIT, and CIT are not required. Many LEAD participants had never been to NLR before they found out about the program. Check out the description below, then download an application form for more information about the application process.
A LEAD participant is a male or female college graduate who desires to spend 9 months in full-time ministry serving, learning, ministering, and growing. New Life Ranch’s LEAD ministry will combine Biblical principles of discipleship with real life, hands-on ministry experience. Participants will be challenged and equipped to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus Christ, as well as gain specific instruction and experience in different ministry areas that will help them gain practical skills to be more effective in life and vocational ministry.
The year will include activities such as Discipleship Groups (studying Spiritual Disciplines, Spiritual Leadership, and more), quiet times, group discussions, mentoring relationships, accountability, and an opportunity for life-mapping and working on a life mission/vision statement. In addition, adventure trips and LEAD nights out will be planned to help you grow as a team.
Throughout the year, you will serve many different groups that come to NLR; including children, teens, and adults. Occasionally you will work long hours; day after day during busy times of the year. However, other times will not be as demanding. Flexibility is the key for each LEAD participant. The program is as demanding as it is rewarding as you see your hard work pay off through service to others and seeing people’s lives being changed. The program is about relationships; relationships between teammates, staff, campers, guests, and ultimately your relationship with Jesus Christ.
